For all the people through the years who have asked me, "what part of your work means the most to you, writing, recording, or playing onstage in front of an audience?" -- well, this DVD and CD is your answer. I've been lucky enough to have other artists sing my songs and make them into hits, to play on cool recording sessions and work with a number of my musical heroes, to write and record a nice handful of my own albums that I'm really proud of; in short, I've had a lot of dreams come true. Yes indeed, there's the sweet satisfaction of a job well done -- the fulfillment of forging something from nothing in a quiet writing room or a first-class recording studio, the gratification of winning an award or seeing a song climb the charts. But then there's Magic Time: steppin' up on a stage with a guitar and a white-hot band, riding that tidal wave of tribal energy that flows between a crazy-good crowd and some blood-brother music-makers doin' what they do best. That's the culmination of everything else I do in music, that's what I live for and why I keep doing what I do. That's what we snapped a snapshot of, in Germany on October 23, 2008 -- One Night in Bonn.
