Americká progresivní metalová kapela založená v roce 1985 v Bostonu trojicí John Petrucci (kytara), John Myung (baskytara) a Mike Portnoy (bicí), která nejprve vystupovala pod názvem Majesty. Kapela je známá svou technickou virtuozitou, složitými hudebními strukturami a schopností kombinovat prvky heavy metalu, progresivního rocku a melodického poprocku. Zpěvák James LaBrie, který se ke skupině připojil v roce 1991, spolu s klávesistou Jordanem Rudessem dodávají kapele charakteristický zvuk plný energie a emocí. Dream Theater si získali miliony fanoušků po celém světě díky svým dlouhým koncertním vystoupením, které jsou skutečnou lekcí z historie progresivního metalu.
